Opening Reception, Saturday, May 4th at 3-5 p.m.

Responding to an ongoing revitalization project along Storm King’s historic Maple Allée, Artist Jean Shin salvages maple trees to create a monumental picnic table, approximately fifty feet in length. Her work Allée Gathering preserves the memory of the lost vista in a new form, bringing attention to tree health and offering a communal place to come together in conversation, observation and reflection. She also taps the remaining maple trees in various states of health for syrup to further archive the presence of this unique species on site.

The exhibition marks the seventh iteration of Storm King’s ongoing Outlooks exhibition series, which invites an emerging or mid-career artist to create a new, site-specific work to be installed on-site for a single season. Outlooks: Jean Shin is organized by Storm King's Senior Curator Nora Lawrence.
