This installation takes on the most basic architectural element, the wall. A wall separates, it divides inside and out, your land and my land, this place and that – it's the archetype and physical manifestation of the boundary between two places. Over the Line undermines this premise by proposing a wall that does not divided, sets no boundary, and creates no separation. While present, it remains a simple yet captivating background. This 140ft-long translucent wall meanders on an open field with its undulating surface dramatically changing in the light urging visitors to weave and wander through the site.

Over the Line will be on view for two years at Art Omi in upstate New York as part of series of interventions taking on the fundamental elements of architecture.

Studio Cadena is an award winning design and architecture practice interested in engaging contemporary life, the city and its people. We are interested in the real, in designing new and captivating spaces, places and experiences for those who use them. The studio is young, yet combines substantial experience in the US and abroad, ranging from high-level strategic planning for cities, to project design on commercial, residential and institutional projects – museums, libraries, private houses, exhibitions, interiors, and furniture. Founded by Benjamin Cadena and based in Brooklyn, the studio was selected in 2016 by the American Institute of Architects for its New Practices award.

Originally from Bogota, Colombia, Benjamin Cadena holds a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and Master of Architecture from the same institution where he was awarded the E. Lewis Dales Traveling Fellowship and the Matlock Traveling Fellowship. He founded the studio having gained experience working with Rice+Lipka Architects, Stan Allen Architect, WORKac and Atelier Bow-Wow.
