Introducing PORTFOLIO, a weeklong camp for ages 14–18 set in Art Omi: Education's brand-new, air-conditioned, state-of-the-art creative space at Art Omi: Pavilions in Chatham.

This five-day program is designed to teach professional documentation practices and thematic thoughtfulness to highlight young artists' authenticity and personality. By the end of the week, campers will leave with a polished, live digital presence and the confidence to navigate the competitive landscape of college admissions and professional art opportunities along with a sense of agency and pride in their identity as an artist. This camp is particularly helpful for those seeking guidance in building a portfolio for AP courses and for those applying to college, but also welcomes teens who are looking to build upon a body of work and learn how to articulate their ideas and creative process in an encouraging and supportive group environment.

What to Expect

Develop Conceptual Rigor
Professional reviewers look for more than just a well-drawn figure; they want to see how an artist thinks. Using Art Omi as inspiration, this program shifts student focus from "making objects" to "exploring themes."

Site-Specific and Multi-Disciplinary Expansion
Art Omi's large-scale sculpture and architecture will motivate campers to work outside the 2D plane and experiment with installation, process-based, and large-scale formats, elevating portfolio appeal by demonstrating risk-taking and multi-disciplinary approaches to making.

Develop a Critical Lens
Learning to talk about work is just as important as making it. Campers will start to develop a "critical eye" through formal and informal peer reviews and professional critiques with Art Omi faculty members.

Strategic Portfolio Curation
A portfolio isn't just a collection of your best pieces, it’s a curated narrative of your growth. Campers will receive support to identify gaps in their current body of work and have studio time to fill them with "anchor pieces". They will be guided through the process of selecting, sequencing, and writing an artist statement as needed.

PORTFOLIO isn't an art bootcamp! Our collective goal is to foster student agency and a sense of joyful discovery in the creative process. We aim to provide an individualized experience where each camper acts as the lead researcher and creator of their own project.

Meet the Teacher

Catie Rogers is an artist and educator whose practice is defined by a commitment to community, curiosity, and play. A graduate of SUNY Purchase with a BFA in Sculpture and an MA in Art Education from The City College of New York, she has cultivated a professional background that includes assisting prominent contemporary artists and teaching neurodivergent students in specialized settings. Now a full-time public school art teacher in Hudson, Rogers integrates a compassion-centered pedagogy into her curriculum, viewing her role as a facilitator of joy.
