The Art Omi Teaching Artist Workshop invites 20 teaching artists to participate in a weekend of professional development, collaboration and exploration. This three-day intensive is for teaching artists who are interested in furthering their skills as arts educators, deepening pedagogical knowledge, making meaningful connections, and developing ideas with others in their field. This unique summit addresses the need for individuals who straddle the disciplines of artist and educator to engage in intentional and rigorous learning.
The workshop consists of sessions and discussions led by renowned arts education specialists, professors, and teaching artists, peer-led making workshops, and free-form collaborations and conversations. The goal of the workshop is to provide resources and support for individuals to thrive as teaching artists, thereby strengthening the field as a whole. By examining our successes and challenges, participating in peer led workshops, and in-depth discussions, the workshop expands and deepens our understanding of what it means to be a teaching artist both in the region, and the arts education community at large.
The program includes 3 nights accommodation in a private or shared room at Art Omi, and all meals. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to Art Omi and must stay for the full duration of the workshop. The Art Omi Teaching Artist Workshop is free of charge and there are no workshop or materials fees required.
Join us on Saturday mornings for this popular workshop for young artists ages 5 - 12! Based on a weekly theme and inspired by artworks in the Sculpture & Architecture Park and Newmark Gallery, each workshop includes an outdoor adventure and a hands-on artmaking activity. Led by teaching artists, children are divided into two groups by age and participate in developmentally appropriate projects that encourage curiosity, experimentation, and creative thinking through a variety of materials and experiences.
FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH
Playgroup meets on October 2, November 6, December 18 (no Playgroup on December 4), January 7, February 4, March 3, April 7, and May 5.
