Saturday Kids Workshop: Summer Series
10 AM – 12 PM
$12 per child or $20 for two siblings
Our Summer Series Saturday Workshops run every weekend through August 31st! This year, teaching artist Dorothea Osborn will lead kids in an ongoing collaborative sculpture project that will progress over the course of the summer. Drop-in any weekend to be a part of this large-scale building experience!
Dorothea Osborn is a visual artist, from a tiny rural town in upstate NY, currently living and working just outside of Albany, NY in an area called: ‘Trollsville”. An area accessed by going under a bridge and next to a creek. Ms. Osborn’s recent body of work ranges from hybrid pieces, using oils, mixed media and sculptural materials. She generally commences a piece by using representational imagery from life or memory of everyday experiences while also incorporating themes of spirituality, dichotomies, time, and the Anthropocene. Consequently, her work blurs the boundaries of representation and abstraction.
Dorothea Osborn received her MFA from the State University of New York at New Paltz, Magna cum Laude. She has exhibited at the University of Michigan, Albany Center Gallery, The Fountain in NYC, The Hudson Mohawk Regional, The Albany Institute of History and Art, and many others venues. A complete CV is available upon request.
In addition to exhibiting widely, Ms. Osborn has also taught painting and drawing extensively. She is currently employed at various venues teaching art. She has taught at Ghost Ranch, NM, The State University of New York at New Paltz, Atelier at Arlene’s, and the Capital Region Arts Center. She has given lectures at the Opalka Gallery, Albany, NY, Capital Region Teachers Center. She has been awarded several New York State Foundation on the Arts awards, best in show numerous times, and has been the spotlight artist in various on-line publications including Gambling the Aisle and the Rising Artist. She was also awarded an Arts, letters and Numbers, Vermont Studio Center, Joshua Tree, Ca. and Chateau Orquevaux, France residencies.
NO CLASS AUGUST 22 OR SEPTEMBER 12.
Gather in the Newmark Gallery on Thursday evenings to sketch, draw, and render from a live male or female nude model. Open to artists of all skill levels ages 16+, each two-hour sessions is self-guided and intended to provide time and space for members of our local community to share in the exploration of this traditional art practice.
Join us on Saturday mornings for this popular workshop for young artists ages 5 - 12! Based on a weekly theme and inspired by artworks in the Sculpture & Architecture Park and Newmark Gallery, each workshop includes an outdoor adventure and a hands-on artmaking activity. Led by teaching artists, children are divided into two groups by age and participate in developmentally appropriate projects that encourage curiosity, experimentation, and creative thinking through a variety of materials and experiences.
