Drawing in the Landscape
10 AM – 1:30 PM
with Ever Baldwin
Scholarships are available!
Throughout the week, students will build expressive drawing skills using the landscape and sculptures at Art Omi as reference and inspiration. Using charcoal, graphite, and pastel we will explore fundamental 2 dimensional art principles such as perspective, value, form and texture while working towards developing a personal artistic "voice". Our outdoor studio time will consist of quick sketches and drawing games, viewing and discussing work by contemporary and historical artists, and extended individual projects. No experience necessary!
This camp is limited to eight participants per week. Social distancing measures will be implemented and students and staff will be required to wear masks when they are within 6'. of each other. Painting will occur outdoors in the Sculpture & Architecture Park except in inclement weather, when students will have distanced work space in the open-air Education Pavilions. Students will be provided with their own set of materials, paints, and tools that will not be shared amongst the group.
Ever Baldwin is a painter in Catskill NY. Their work has been included in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Boston, Toronto, and Berlin. They have attended residency programs at The Ragdale Foundation, The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, and in 2014 received a cultural grant from The City of Chicago to attend The Atlantic Center for the Arts, where they studied with the painter Dana Schutz. Ever has worked with children, teens, and adults as a teaching artist for over ten years, and an artists’ book featuring their series of food paintings was recently published by Soberscove Press in Chicago. They hold a BFA in painting from The Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from The School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
On Thursday evenings, Art Omi hosts Open Figure Drawing for Adults, where a group of artists gathers in the Newmark Gallery to sketch, draw, and render from a live model. While current circumstances prevents us from gathering in person, the urge to forge community through artistic practice has in some ways grown stronger than ever.
Now, we are inviting everyone in Art Omi's extended community to draw along at home! You are also invited to share and connect with the group via a weekly Zoom Thursdays from 5 - 6 pm EST. Please note that registration is capped, and so we encourage you to reserve your spot in advance.
You can also participate by tagging us on your completed drawings on Instagram or Facebook! Use #artomi and #educationomi to share your work. All styles and media welcome — show us your creative best!
