HVCC Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting End-of-Year Exhibit
For over a decade, Art Omi has hosted a restaging of the annual thesis exhibition by students enrolled in Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting, a capstone course in Hudson Valley Community College’s Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media.
The students and faculty involved in this exhibit are pleased that this long-standing collaboration will continue in 2020, albeit in a new format. “The Before, The After and In Between” is housed in virtual galleries brainstormed and created after the COVID-19 pandemic closed classrooms and art studios across New York State. The exhibit may now be viewed online at the HVCC Virtual Gallery, rather than as a weekend show onsite in the Art Omi: Education Pavilions.
Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting is a two-semester, guided-study for students who have completed foundation art courses and wish to pursue their own body of work. The students featured in “The Before, The After and In Between” are Brian W. Tran, Marissa M. Booth, Faith Michelle, Destinée Lee Kearsing, Caroline Callender, AJ, Jose Maria Renteria, Kasey Joyce, Maggie Schwind, Angela Lohaus, Jahniah A. Kum and Derek Marcelino.
The virtual galleries are a spirited collaborative effort of the students who created the work, the faculty members who guided them, and web developers in the ITS department who built an attractive and easy-to-navigate experience. It all came together in a few short weeks; a labor fueled by optimism for a better tomorrow.
The Virtual Drawing Group invites Art Omi's extended community to draw along at home! Virtual Drawing Group participants share their work and connect with the group via a weekly Zoom session on Thursday at 5 pm EST. All styles and media welcome. Registration is capped, and so participants are encouraged to reserve a spot in advance.
