Fall Opening in the Sculpture + Architecture Park
4 – 6 PM
Celebrate the fall season at Art Omi! New installations in the Sculpture & Architecture Park, plus the opening of Statues, a solo exhibition by Francesca DiMattio in the Newmark Gallery.
Statues, a solo exhibition, presents selections from bodies of work ranging from 2015 - 2019. The works included probe perceptions of domesticity, presenting traditionally domestic forms and materials in novel and occasionally uncomfortable ways. By naming the exhibition “statues,” Dimattio seeks to highlight the representation of the figure, a consistent thread throughout the work.
Art Omi: Architecture presents an opening reception for the opening of InConstruction: Pedro y Juana, winner of MoMA PS1's Young Architects Program 2019. Also opening that day, RRRolling Stones by HANNAH, a moveable outdoor seating system made from 3D-printed concrete. RRRolling Stones was commissioned by Socrates Sculpture Park and the Architectural League of New York. RRRolling Stones was the winner of Folly / Function, an annual juried competition challenging architects to design and build a large- scale project at Socrates Sculpture Park.
Join us on Saturday mornings for this popular workshop for young artists ages 5 - 12! Based on a weekly theme and inspired by artworks in the Sculpture & Architecture Park and Newmark Gallery, each workshop includes an outdoor adventure and a hands-on artmaking activity. Led by teaching artists, children are divided into two groups by age and participate in developmentally appropriate projects that encourage curiosity, experimentation, and creative thinking through a variety of materials and experiences.
