Omi International Arts Center is excited to announce an independently organized project by Isidro Blasco being done in Hudson with 7 Art Omi alumni entitled INTERVENTIONS II. Having purchased a home in Hudson last November with his wife, Blasco has invited artists to apply their ideas to the structure before he begins a renovation that will allow himself and his wife to reside there full-time. Without explicitly telling them what to do, he has selected the artists based on what he can see of the potential in the work they make and his curiosity about how their existing processes will fit into a new context. As such, INTERVENTIONS II will investigate how the architectural elements of a house might turn out differently from what is generally accepted as normal. The project implicitly rejecting the status quo of the standardized home, where decisions are based on economical or aesthetic factors and not through real perceptions of space and emotions.
Art Omi alumni featured in this exhibition are Beth Campbell (2001, USA), Ivan Navarro (2001, Chile/USA), Dannielle Tegeder (2003, USA), Max Goldfarb (USA, 2001), Clare Churchouse (2001, UK/USA) and Tom Kotik (2001, Czech Republic/USA.) Exhibition organizer Isidro Blasco is also an Art Omi alum, (2001, Spain/USA.)
Isidro Blasco was born in Madrid and has lived in New York since 1996. An award winning artist, he was a sculptor in residence at the Spanish Academy in Rome in 1991, the recipient of a Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant in 1998 and 2010, and of the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in Visual Arts in 2000. Isidro's work has been shown at P.S.1/MoMA and the Whitney Museum, as well as in solo shows at the Reina Sofia in Madrid in 2004 and internationally in Shanghai, Sydney, Chile, and San Paolo.
