Omi Visual Artist Residency alumnae Peggy Cyphers, Rosemarie Fiore and Portia Munson and Fields artist Margaret Evangeline will create one-day temporary pieces in The Fields Sculpture Park. Works include sculptures, on-site installations and hanging works in the trees. Artists will engage in a combination of performances and informal talks throughout the day.

Dance Omi Salon

The Studio Barns: intersection of County Route 22 + Letter S Road, Ghent, NY


With a diverse group of dancers from all over the world, the Dance Omi Salon is a forum for the residents to share their individual work with the public before exhibiting their collaborative projects later in the month. It is an intimate evening of live performance set in the studio spaces, and gives context to individual artist's work at the start of the residency program.


The event is free and open to the public, with no RSVP required.

STORY: Writing Intensive for Teens


July 25-29 (M-F, 10AM-3PM)

Whether you want to write a novel, compose a collection of poems, pen your college application essay, create a monologue for stage, ink a journalistic travelogue, or craft a nonfiction narrative based on an ancient civilization, this week-long summer intensive takes your work to the deepest level.

Miracle and Monstah: Dance Omi Alumni Concert at PS21

Located Offsite at PS21 in Chatham, NY
$30 not-yet-members / $25 PS21 or Omi members / $15 students

A special evening of dance celebrating 25 years of Art Omi, Alumni Stephanie Miracle (Dance Omi 2012) and Monstah Black (Dance Omi 2011), each present heartfelt and breathtaking multi-disciplinary solo dance performances. From the United States, but currently living and working in Germany, dancer/choreographer Stephanie Miracle presents Figure Eights (Part 2), an autobiographical solo that weaves, darts, and lingers in a memory landscape. Monstah Black presents his dance film and performance Cotton, filmed over nine months in various locations between NYC and Virginia.

ReActor, the newest work in an experimental, performative series of "social relationship architecture" by internationally renowned architect-artist team Alex Schweder + Ward Shelley opens July 30 at Omi International Arts Center. Currently under construction in Architecture Omi's Field 01, ReActor will become a habitable sculpture, where Schweder + Shelley will live in full view of their audience from July 27-31, 2016.

Nicolás Aracena Müller works within the scopes of performance art, architecture, contemporary design, sculpture and fabrication. The architect relies on the landscape, architecture and surrounding area to act as conceptual research material, which allows him to explore and react to his surroundings, a perspective on our environment. Join us in inaugurating three exhibitions for Architecture Omi with an opening, reception + curator's talk at the Benenson Visitors Center.

WRITE/MAKE!

Join the Maker Movement! This five day camp led by two experienced teaching artists combines creative writing and art making in innovative ways. Let your writing inform an artistic vision or let an artwork inspire a new story.

Drop-in Drawing for Adults

Ages 15+

Come draw with Omi Director Ruth Adams in a relaxing and fun workshop for all levels - from the novice who wants to find an enjoyable intro into drawing, to the more advanced draftsperson looking for a community drawing experience. Drawing boards, paper, pencils, erasers and charcoal provided (Bring your own specialty materials if preferred). Light snacks provided.

All levels welcome! Cash + Card accepted at the door.

These workshops offer studio experiences for children ages 4 1/2 -12. Themes and activities are connected with the artists, artworks and ideas featured in the current exhibition in The Fields Sculpture Park. Workshops begin with an adventure in The Fields focusing on artworks pertinent to a weekly theme.

Dance Omi Showing in The Fields

Omi's Dance Residents show works created in collaboration with each other during their stay at Omi. The residency emphasizes process over product, so the artists will present the fruits of their exchange in the form of unique pieces. Each year's iteration varies, but almost always involve site-specific performance events leading hundreds of visitors throughout Omi's beautiful sculpture park.

Max Goldfarb: Remote Viewing Pavilion

 

Sunday, September 4 at 2 PM
The Fields Sculpture Park

 

Omi Visual Artist Residency alum and local artist Max Goldfarb will perform a project based on a text from his soon to be published book, Remote Viewing. He will collaborate with two electronic sound improvisers, Jack Schoonover and Max Hamel to create a piece that will be broadcast from Wave Farm/WGXC, Hudson's non-profit radio station.

 

Additional voice performers will also participate in this piece, to be announced. There will be opportunities for the public to interact with this process as well.

Writers Collective of Kristiania: Wealth, Space, Community

Members of Kristiania will offer public readings and performances at various locations throughout the Fields Sculpture Park. The public is invited to join our community as we celebrate the role Omi has played in our artistic growth. A reception celebrating Kristiania's first publication, a limited edition, handmade anthology of work by its members on the theme of Wealth, will follow in the Benenson Visitors Center.

Light Into Night

Our upstate fundraiser, LIGHT INTO NIGHT brings together visual artists, writers, musicians and dancers for an unforgettable event. Experience a rare and exclusive evening of installations and performances against the striking backdrop of the Omi Studio Barns.

This event helps the world-renowned Omi International Arts Center continue our important work of producing international arts programming of the highest caliber right here in the Hudson Valley.

Writers Omi Fall Reading and BBQ

Join distinguished writers, translators, and poets in residence at Writers Omi this fall for a night of one-of-a-kind readings by international voices. Following the event, Omi invites visitors to join the writers for a barbecue feast and reception, for which donations are appreciated. The reading is free and open to the public.
