Writers Omi: Reading at 3rd Floor Gallery

Hear Omi's Spring 2017 international writers and translators in residence read and share their work with an intimate, live audience. This is the first reading hosted by Writers Omi this year, which provides residencies to international literary voices across all types of literature.

Architects as Sculptors

The inaugural Architecture Omi /NYC event focuses on three contemporary practices based in New York City. Recurring philosophical questions will be discussed: What is the difference between sculpture and architecture? Can architects practice at the intersection of architecture and sculpture? Can architects be sculptors?

Listen to speakers Yolande Daniels, Jing Liu and Allan Wexler present their work and discuss these issues in a conversation moderated by architect Warren James, Director of Architecture Omi. This event is organized by the AIA/NY Cultural Facilities Committee and the Architecture Omi program.

Spring Art Camp 2017

Spring Art Camp is an imaginative and active way to bring in the new season! This four-day program features a variety of creative adventures for kids. Daily activities include art projects, special workshops with a visiting artist, exploration of The Fields Sculpture Park, storytelling, and play.

ReActor is the newest work in an experimental, performative series of "social relationship architecture" by internationally renowned architect-artist team Alex Schweder + Ward Shelley. Located in Architecture Omi's Field 01, ReActor is a habitable sculpture, where Schweder + Shelley will live in full view of their audience for a series of performances throughout the season.

Lois Dodd: Windows

Omi is pleased to present a series of paintings by the highly renowned American painter Lois Dodd. The artist is best known for her contemplative depictions of landscapes and interiors found around her homes in New York, New Jersey, and Maine. She is also notable as a founder of the artist run, cooperative Tanager Gallery in New York City, 1952.

Collaborations and artworks by adults of Coarc who participated in a series of creative workshops at Omi over the course of the past several months. The exhibition will include works by individuals who, in addition to drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture projects, engaged in movement, music, active viewing experiences, and team-building activities over the course of the program.


Special thanks to the Coarc Arts Endowment for making this annual partnership possible.

Coarc has been an advocate and resource in Columbia County for individuals who experience disabilities and their families since 1965. The organization provides comprehensive services to children and adults, both in the community and at more than twenty regional locations. Coarc's mission is to expand abilities, one person at a time, so individuals experiencing disabilities can achieve their individual goals.


Writers Omi: Reading + BBQ

A distinguished group of international writers and translators currently in residence at Writers Omi will read from their works. Following the event, Omi invites visitors to gather for a barbeque feast and reception with the writers, for which donations are appreciated.

The Fields Sculpture Park: Spring Exhibition Opening

Join us on Saturday mornings for this popular workshop for young artists ages 4 1/2 - 12! Based on a weekly theme and inspired by artworks in The Fields, Architecture Omi, and the Visitors Center Gallery, each workshop includes an outdoor adventure and a hands-on artmaking activity. Led by teaching artists, children are divided into two groups by age and participate in developmentally appropriate projects that encourage curiosity, experimentation, and creative thinking through a variety of materials and experiences.

The Fields Sculpture Park

Omi's Dance Residents show works created in collaboration with each other during their stay at Omi. The residency emphasizes process over product, so the artists will present the fruits of their exchange in the form of unique pieces. Each year's iteration varies, but almost always involve site-specific performance events leading hundreds of visitors throughout Omi's beautiful campus.

Music Omi Improvises in the Café

Residents will perform "guerilla" collaborations in groupings randomly selected by the audience. The improvisational evening offers the public an opportunity to experience the diverse backgrounds of the residents early in their residency and participate in the process of creative exploration, live.
